A Day at Fårup Sommerland themepark in Denmark

Continuing from our experience of staying at the hotel, we wanted to dedicate an entire post to Fårup Sommerland's park itself. And trust us, it deserves every word.

When you think of theme parks, your mind may wander to exotic locations with names like Arabian Nights or Asian Jungle. Or perhaps you picture famous cartoon characters wandering the park to take selfies with visitors. However, Fårup Sommerland deviates from this stereotype in the most charming way. Here, the woodland is the star, and it's represented by three mascots that couldn't be more fitting—Porcupine, Squirrel, and Fox. No fancy names, just plain and simple, and irresistibly endearing. These characters lend themselves to a universe that feels like it was pulled straight from "Wind in the Willows," with individual rides and attractions tailored around their homes and habitats.

The park’s environment enhances its woodland theme remarkably well. Trees are not just a backdrop but an integral part of the experience, providing a canopy of shade that makes walking through the park feel as intimate as a leisurely stroll in your own neighborhood woods. Instead of relying on artificial props, the decor here is largely made up of authentic wood elements—trunks, boards, and, well, more trees. As time goes by, rather than deteriorating or appearing scuffed, these natural materials only add to the park's authentic woodland aesthetic. For example, one of the park's rides, aptly named "The Saw," takes you through a sawmill, fitting perfectly with the overarching woodland theme.

Beyond the rides, which are unquestionably exhilarating and well worth the screams, the park also does an excellent job with its food offerings. Instead of the usual fast-food options, here you'll find a variety of healthier choices, like carved fruit and kid-friendly sandwiches, all at reasonable prices. Water bottle refill stations are scattered throughout the park, promoting hydration and environmental consciousness.

But what truly captured our hearts was the expansive pirate treasure hunt obstacle course running through the center of the park. It was an incredible journey that took us over an hour to complete. Led by our own adventurous Bear, the course took us through grottoes, mazes, pirate ships, and even up into treetop houses. There were swings across water, cable car rides, and a lot more to ensure that we had tired legs, wet shoes, bruised knees, and the biggest smiles on our faces by the end of it.

Lets have a look!
