Hot elderberry drink - and elderberry toddy

After a day of foraging and processing those dark, luscious elderberries (check out our guide here), nothing feels cozier than enjoying a warm glass of elderberry juice. Here's how we like to serve it up:

Option 1: Neat and Sweet

Heat up the elderberry juice just to the point where it's steamy but not boiling. If it's not sweet enough for your liking, you can always add a teaspoon of sugar or honey. Sip slowly and let the warmth permeate your soul. Our addition of thyme gives the drink a bit of lemon-flavor - So if you omitted it from our base recipe, now is a good time to add it in.

Option 2: Elderberry Toddy

For a more adult version, add a splash of grape-flavored gin to your hot elderberry juice. It's our own take on a toddy, and Freya swears by it for keeping away a sore throat.

Seasonal Additions

As the winds start to carry that crisp autumn scent and Halloween approaches, a stick of cinnamon adds a hauntingly good flavor. A pinch of cardamom also works wonders, adding a fragrant, spicy note.

Want to bring in some Nordic or German Yuletide spirit? Start approximating a Gløgg or Glühwein by tossing in some apple pieces, almond flakes, and maybe even a pinch of cayenne. It's a mulled magic you won't want to miss.
