Elderberry slush is a Rare Autumn Delight

Sometimes it feels like nature plays a little trick on us. Just as the harvest season arrives and fruits are ripening on the vine, the air turns crisp and the sun loses its warmth. But then, like a fond farewell, a rare warm day in the heart of autumn appears. On those days, when you want to soak up the lingering rays of sunshine, why not indulge in a cold treat?

For such days, we've concocted the perfect homemade elderberry slushie. You can go two ways here: Either blend ice cubes with rich and thick elderflower syrup, or use frozen elderberry juice straight from the freezer.

If Using Syrup: Blend ice cubes and elderflower syrup together in a blender until you reach a slushie consistency. Adjust with water as needed.

If Using Frozen elderberry juice: Take your batch of frozen elderberries and break it up a bit—your kitchen hammer comes in handy here. Once it's more manageable, toss it in a blender. Add a little water and blend until you get the right consistency.

While commercial slushies rely on strong syrups to stand up to dilution, elderberries have a naturally potent flavor that holds its own, even when chilled to icy temperatures.

You might want to serve it with a decorative mint sprig or even a mint flower!
